What Olympic events are coming to LA in 2028 and why is breaking not on the list?

Despite breaking being |A|
a breakout hit of |B|
the Paris Games last |C|
week, the sport will |D|
not be returning to |E|
the 2028 Games in |F|
Los Angeles. The decision |G|
was actually made years |H|
ago not to include |J|
breaking. In 2022, the |K|
International Olympic Committee initially |L|
announced 28 sports had |M|
been approved for the |O|
LA Games — leaving |P|
breaking off the list. |Q|
Then in 2023, the |R|
IOC approved an additional |S|
five sports: baseball/softball, cricket, |U|
flag football, lacrosse (sixes) |V|
and squash. In October |Y|
2023 — ahead of |Z|
the Paris Games — |A|
the governing body of |B|
breaking, World DanceSport Federation, |C|
put out a statement |D|
addressing the sport being |E|
left out of the |F|
LA Games. "While profoundly |G|
disappointed with the LA28 |H|
decision, the WDSF is |J|
proud of all that |K|
it has accomplished, together |L|
with the breaking community, |M|
in an extremely short |O|
amount of time," the |P|
statement reads, in part, |Q|
noting the organizations "strong" |R|
relationship with the IOC. |S|
The statement continues |U| on, noting that breaking |V| "is not the first |Y| sport to be included |Z| at one edition of |A| the Olympic Games and |B| then be excluded from |C| the next."
"For example, |D| baseball-softball and karate took |E| part in Tokyo 2020 |F| and were subsequently overlooked |G| for Paris 2024," the |H| WDSF statement reads. "Like |J| breaking, karate had not |K| yet made its Olympic |L| debut before being excluded |M| at the following edition |O| of the Games.
"The |P| WDSF is working hard |Q| to ensure that breaking |R| is included at the |S| Olympic Games Brisbane 2032, |U| just as softball-baseball has |V| returned to LA28 after |Y| missing out on Paris |Z| 2024."
In an email |A| to TODAY.com, an LA28 |B| Olympic & Paralympic Games |C| spokesperson said the decision |D| to not include breaking |E| “came with a great |F| deal of consideration and |G| utmost respect for the |H| sport, its athletes and |J| fans.”
"While LA28 recognizes |K| the value that breaking |L| can bring to the |M| Olympic Movement, we ultimately |O| proposed a holistic and |P| balanced package of new |Q| sports that prioritizes the |R| ability to showcase quintessential |S| American sports alongside influential |U| global sports," the spokesperson |V| said. "The LA28 Olympic |Y| sports line-up also highlights |Z| the unique opportunity to |A| co-create with major professional |B| leagues, while offering a |C| platform for new sports |D| and new athlete communities |E| to compete on the |F| global stage in 2028."

How many athletes |A| compete in the Olympic |B| Games?
The IOC generally |C| prefers to limit the |D| number of athletes at |E| a Summer Games to |F| 10,500 people, the Associated |G| Press reports.
The additional |H| four team sports will |J| likely push the IOC |K| to extend its limit |L| and pressure on the |M| core Olympic sports to |O| cut their allowed number |P| of athletes, according to |Q| the AP.
The IOC |R| has set a target |S| of early 2025 to |U| confirm final quotas.
