Brock Purdy has mixed results in 49ers 24-24 preseason tie with the Raiders

LAS VEGAS -- |A|
— Brock Purdy was |B|
efficient in completing 9 |C|
of 12 passes for |D|
96 yards, but also |E|
threw a red-zone interception |F|
as the San Francisco |G|
49ers concluded their preseason |H|
with a 24-24 tie |J|
with the Las Vegas |K|
Raiders on Friday night. |L|
|Y| dir="ltr">Each team took an |Z| opposite approach to the |A| game with the regular |B| season two weeks away. |C| The 49ers played most |D| of their starters in |E| the first quarter and |F| the Raiders went with |G| backups auditioning for roster |H| spots in Las Vegas |J| or another NFL team.
|K| dir="ltr">One player fighting for |L| one of those slots |M| was quarterback Nathan Peterman, |O| who received the surprise |P| start after coach Antonio |Q| Pierce said Wednesday that |R| Carter Bradley would open |S| the game.
Peterman played |U| the first half and |V| completed 12 of 19 |Y| passes for 108 yards |Z| a touchdown. Bradley led |A| the tying drive for |B| the field goal and |C| finished 9 of 21 |D| for 169 yards with |E| a TD and interception |F| in the end zone.
|G| dir="ltr">Tyreik McAllister, another Raiders |H| player competing for a |J| spot, returned a punt |K| 81 yards for a |L| touchdown and caught a |M| 35-yard TD pass.
On |O| the other end, the |P| 49ers wanted to get |Q| a close look at |R| most of their starters, |S| which included the preseason |U| debuts of wide receiver |V| Deebo Samuel and tight |Y| end George Kittle. Kittle |Z| made a highlight 19-yard |A| grab between two defenders |B| and finished with three |C| catches for 34 yards. |D| His previous preseason career |E| total: four receptions for |F| 47 yards.
Not all |G| the 49ers starters played, |H| however, in the teams |J| first appearance at Allegiant |K| Stadium since losing in |L| the Super Bowl six |M| months earlier to the |O| Kansas City Chiefs.
Among |P| the missing were All-Pro |Q| running back Christian McCaffrey because of |R| a calf injury. Also, |S| All-Pro left tackle Trent |U| Williams and second-team All-Pro |V| receiver Brandon Aiyuk have been in |Y| contract disputes that remain |Z| to unresolved even with |A| the season just two |B| weeks away.
Aiyuk, however, |C| was at Allegiant Stadium |D| on Friday night and |E| even chatted with Pierce |F| before the game. Pierce |G| was the linebackers coach |H| at Arizona State when |J| Aiyuk played there in |K| 2018-19.
Aiyuk didnt travel |L| with the team two |M| weeks earlier when the |O| Niners played at Nashville |P| and watched last weeks |Q| home game against New |R| Orleans from a private |S| box.
Purdy played just |U| into the second quarter |V| against the Raiders reserves, |Y| taking a 10-0 lead |Z| and nearly going up |A| three scores.
The first |B| possession resulted in a |C| 49-yard field goal by |D| Jake Moody, and then |E| Purdy guided the 49ers |F| on a 12-play, 85-yard |G| touchdown drive. San Francisco |H| was at the Raiders |J| 16-yard line early in |K| the second period when |L| Purdys pass to Samuel |M| was broken up by |O| cornerback Sam Webb and |P| picked off by safety |Q| Chris Smith II.
Then |R| it was up to |S| the reserves on both |U| sides.
INJURIES
49ers: Left |V| defensive ends Yetur Gross-Matos |Y| and Leonard Floyd left |Z| with knee injuries late |A| in the first quarter |B| and entered the blue |C| injury tent. They later |D| were able to walk |E| on the sideline, but |F| didnt return to the |G| game.
UP NEXT
49ers: |H| Host the New York |J| Jets on Sept. 9 |K| to open the season.
